Study Week

This was a week of studies. I'm happy with the progress of these two. They're quick sketches of the Asaro head. I've always struggled with drawing this, but I'm developing my crosschecking skills and each time I do it I get a little closer to something I'm happy with.

Color Sketch

A quick monochrome sketch to get back into painting. It's still in progress. I haven't painted a portrait in seven years so this was a fun rediscovery of all the things I didn't know I remembered, and more things that I've obviously long forgotten. My fiancee was a great help with this one, she's not an artist, but she's got a great eye for these things and when I've been staring at something for too long she can come by and say "that edge is too sharp, or that curve is too flat..." It's amazing. Goodnight!

A long time coming

Through the encouragement of my friends, co-workers and a brand new cintiq I've finally started a blog to post my sketches and thoughts on art. Special thanks to Hans Ranum and Carlos Ortega for giving me that extra push and inspiration to get this started.

I waited four months for my new toy, but between work and wedding planning I haven't had much time to play. So last night I stayed up most of the night and just drew. I'm still getting used to it, but I have to say this new cintiq is amazing. It was a great night, I don't think I've drawn anything more than 3 heads tall for months. This sketch of my fiance is my favorite of the bunch. She doesn't know it, but she is greatly responsible for my renewed interest and passion for art. I can't thank her enough.
